Bruce Banner, PhD

Physicist

Background

Doctor Bruce Banner aka the Hulk is an American theoretical physicist, famed for his work into the studies of nuclear physics and gamma radiation. He was recruited by General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and the US Army to develop the first Gamma Bomb. During its first live test he was bombarded with a massive dose of gamma rays while saving Rick Jones, a kid who was out on the test site. He was mutated into a green behemoth, the living personification of rage, fueled by pure physical strength and would come to be known as nearly mindless “Incredible Hulk”. Fearful of the damage that Hulk could inflict, as well as fleeing from the military, he went on the run. He later found a home among the Avengers, the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, for a short time

Hank McCoy, PhD

Physicist

Background

Henry “Hank” McCoy was born and raised in Dunfee, Illinois, the son of Norton and Edna McCoy. His father worked at a nuclear power plant where he was exposed to massive amounts of radiation during an accident. Norton was completely unharmed, but the radiation affected his genes and, as a result, his son was born a mutant. Unlike most mutants, Henry showed signs of mutation from birth: unusually large hands and feet, coupled with unusual strength and agility. A prodigy, Hank was also endowed with an innate superhuman intellect and during adolescence further increased his powers of simian-like augmented agility, reflexes, and strength.

Hank Pym, PhD

Entomologist and Physicist

Background

Doctor Henry Jonathan “Hank” Pym is an entomologist and physicist, who developed the Ant-Man Suit, after discovering the Pym Particles. For a time, he worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. as a consultant and became the original Ant-Man, fighting beside his own wife, Janet van Dyne, who had taken on the mantle of the Wasp, as they took on missions together, including one to capture his former ally, Elihas Starr. However, during a mission to stop a Soviet Union missile, Ant-Man witnessed the Wasp sacrificing herself to save millions of lives, as she had become trapped within the Quantum Realm, with seemingly no way to save her. Pym then changed directions and had founded Pym Technologies while also retiring as the Ant-Man, vowing never to use his invention again, turning his back on S.H.I.E.L.D. as he had found that Howard Stark and Mitchell Carson had tried to recreate his original designs for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s purposes.
